About The Homeopathic Symposium
The
general trends in the teaching of medicine are moving toward working with
case or problem based learning. Contemporary medical schools have been
creating text-based clinical correlates for this purpose which inspired
our development of an interactive video library, designed to facilitate
the teaching of homeopathic case taking and case analysis.
Our
team of instructors are highly respected practitioners from all over the
world and they'll be sharing not only videos of their patients, but also
their teaching and philosophy of practice.
Before
we go any further let me make clear that this site is not open to the
public. It requires verified registration and is offered to homeopathic
practitioners, current students of homeopathy and medical professionals.
The site has been carefully constructed to respect the strict patient
confidentiality requirements of the HIPAA regulations. In addition of
course, we've obtained written permission from all the patients involved.
In
our Learning Center you will find the teaching tools we're offering are
multimedia lectures that consist of voice or video narrated presentations
on a variety of topics. We will be offering pieces developed on plant
families in homeopathy, periodic table classifications, working with mental/emotional
symptoms, understanding miasms, and many other topics of homeopathic practice,
philosophy and pharmacy.
The most unique feature of this
site is our library of case videos. Each case has been developed into
an interactive module and you will be able to search through these cases
by presenting complaint, practitioner, or remedy.
The five to ten minute preview that
we've created for each case serves two purposes; to help you decide if
you're interested in working through the entire three to four hour module
but also to share our successes with the greater medical community. The
Homeopathic Symposium's slogan is teaching good prescribing, documenting
cure. We hope this site will be used to introduce those in the medical
field, who are unfamiliar with homeopathy to how effective this medicine
can be for so many different types of illness.
After watching a preview and
deciding to take a specific course you'll have the option of viewing the
intake with practitioner video commentary. Along the side, you'll see
the intake has been broken into chapters with practitioner commentary
featured at the end of each of the segments.
Now
at any time, if you get confused as to where you are within the interactive
module, just take a look above the screen where you'll find your progress
tracked; preview, intake, analysis, prescription, follow-up and quiz.
In
the analysis section of the module, our practitioners share with you their
various methods of how they approach a case. This talk is followed by
what we call the analysis work area, where a full transcription of the
entire intake is available for study. We've created this window where
you can assemble key words or phrases from the case to assist in theme
building.
Having
based this module on a mentorship approach to learning, we feel it's important
to preserve the individuality of each homeopath's thought process by providing
a step-by-step analysis from the practitioner who solved the case. Assistance
is also available in the form of a full repertorization of the case. Get
only as much help as you need, then go back to working on your own. We've
designed incremental instruction in a manner which accommodates both beginners
needs yet respects an advanced practitioner's desire for little or no
help at all. But for the student, it's comforting to know that assistance
is just a click away.
Now
comes the really fun part. Our virtual prescription pad! You've worked
on the case, studied your materia medica, and come up with a remedy that
you think best fits this patient. Simply type in your prescription, and...
if it matches the remedy that the patient received, you'll see a presentation
about it and how it fit the case. If
the remedy you chose wasn't given, but one which was considered by the
teaching practitioner, you'll get a full explanation as to why it wasn't
the remedy prescribed.
Now,
we move to the follow-ups. Here we track for you the patient's progress
and intersperse it with commentary from the practitioner. Is the patient
better, is it time for another dose of the medicine? A change of potency?
Or perhaps another remedy? Oh…the tough questions of case management!
Our
interactive module ends with a short quiz which is automatically corrected
and then a certificate of completion is issued, which is valid for three
to four hours of continuing education credit.
A
note about this site and internet connections. For the streaming video
to work properly, you're going to want to use a high speed connection.
So if you have a dial up modem, you may want to locate a school or library
in your area from which you could take our courses.
